This is really the story of the invisible woman, a counterpart to the H.G.Wells male character who becomes insane as a side effect of his invisibility. She is Metis, wife of Zeus, who challenged her to turn into a fly and then swallowed her (consumed her whole) as he feared she was becoming too strong resulting in the birth of the warrior Athena from her father’s head the existence of her mother being completely erased. She is a Herma, a boundary marker offering protection and fertility.
